The sign for AFTERNOON is two signs joined into one. First the sign for AFTER begins. One hand takes the shape of 1d with the palm facing outwards in front of the shoulder. The index finger turns so that the palm faces downwards, then inwards and finally upwards whilst the hand changes to the form of 1 as the other hand moves up beside it in the shape of 1. The hands thus make up the sign for 12. They move up and down alternately alongside each other twice or more.
